Is Spot Pet Insurance good?

"Spot Pet Insurance offers a lot of value for pet owners looking for comprehensive coverage for their furry friends. Spot policies cover a wide range of accidents and illnesses, including alternative therapies and holistic care. It also boasts a great wellness plan that gives you the freedom to spend your benefit however you choose.

Plans with unlimited annual payouts and high reimbursement rates can get expensive. The 14-day waiting period for accident coverage is also a downside to keep in mind while shopping.

That said, Spot is a solid option for most pet owners, especially those with older pets or those seeking alternative treatments.

If you still aren’t sure if pet insurance is worth it, or if you can’t decide if Spot Pet Insurance is the best choice for you, Pawlicy Advisor makes it easy to compare plans and find the best value. Check out our pet insurance comparison charts or read through additional pet insurance reviews to learn more.

You can also receive a custom quote for the best available plans, at the lowest possible price, with one search at Pawlicy Advisor."

Expert Insights

Does Spot Pet Insurance cover neutering?

No, Spot's Accident & Illness plan doesn’t cover the costs of neutering or spaying. However, you can get reimbursed for these services if you purchase a Spot wellness plan in addition to your insurance policy.

Routine Care Add-On

Spot Pet Insurance also offers optional wellness plans that cover the cost of routine vet care, such as:

  • Spay/neuter surgery
  • Dental cleanings (if necessary to treat a covered condition)
  • Annual checkups
  • Heartworm, flea, and tick preventatives
  • Vitamins and supplements
  • Fecal exams

Spot wellness plans are offered in two tiers:

  • Platinum Preventative Care (+$25/mo) - $450 in annual benefits
  • Gold Preventative Care (+$10/mo) - $250 in annual benefits

Pawlicy Advisor Tip: We recommend adding routine care for pets under age two due to the high number of wellness visits at this age. Older pets may not save money with a routine care add-on. Learn more: Are Wellness Plans Worth It?

Waiting Periods

How it Works

Spot works by reimbursing 70 to 90% of your vet bills when a pet gets unexpectedly sick or injured. Once your deductible is met, Spot will pay your insurance claim at the policy's pre-set reimbursement rate (selected at the time of enrollment) up to the annual coverage limit.
